FAQs

Can anyone play, regardless of gender identity? Yes! Girls, boys, non-binary, other - all are welcome and encouraged to play!

  • Placing your child really depends on their age; kids under 8 years old should start at the various levels of the Ithaca Youth Bureau's (IYB) tee ball and baseball programs. If your player is 8 or 9 with limited baseball experience - the IYB program will still be the right place to start. If your player is 9-12 with baseball experience, they can join the Ithaca Babe Ruth Cal Ripken Spring, Summer or Fall leagues. If your player is 13-16 years of age, there is also a Summer Babe Ruth league.

  • Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken programs use the April 30th as the "age" cut off for each year. To see what that means to your player, check out this site.

  • Yes, we have programs for ages 9u, 10u, 11u, 12u, 13u, 14u, 15u & 16u. Tryouts are generally in the fall for the next summer program team. Exceptions can be made for new arrivals to our community. Travel teams practice over the winter, play in the local leagues (e.g., Cal Ripken, Middle School or High School) in the spring and play the travel schedule, including tournaments and local games, in the summer months.

  • Scholarships for registration and equipment are available to anyone who needs it. Contact us here to share what you need. Players are expected to bring a glove and batter's helmet - bats can be shared or players can bring their own. At least one jersey and a hat are provided as part of registration fees.
